A security guard at a bank in south suburban Evergreen Park fired shots Friday at a robber fleeing his fourth successful heist in five tries since September, authorities said.
Just before noon, the man walked into the First National Bank branch at 3960 W. 95th St. and demanded money without showing a weapon, according to Evergreen Park police.
As he left with an undisclosed amount of cash, the security guard followed, told him to stop and then fired a shot, police said.
No one was hurt. The robber crossed South Pulaski Road, got into a parked car and took off northbound on Pulaski, police said.
According to the FBI, Friday’s robber is suspected in three Chicago bank robberies, which happened:
— Oct. 23 at the Chase Bank branch at 11721 S. Halsted St.;
— Sept. 29 at the Chase Bank branch at 8340 S. Kedzie Ave.; and
Local
— Sept. 14 at the Byline Bank Branch at 4050 S. Archer Ave.
He also tried to rob a Bank of America Branch at 5601 S. Kedzie Ave. on Oct. 21, but didn’t make off with any cash, according to the FBI.
The robber is described as a 5-foot-10 black man in his late 30s or early 40s, weighing between 200 and 220 pounds. He has worn dark sweats and a bandana over his face in most of the robberies, surveillance footage shows.
