Family Offers Reward in Fatal Morton Grove Hit-and-Run

After a beloved father and grandfather was fatally struck in a hit and run collision, the man’s family is pleading with the public to bring the driver to justice.

On Saturday, the family announced that they were offering a $10,000 reward for information into the death of Leo Belogur, an 86-year-old man who was struck and killed while he was crossing a street in suburban Morton Grove on Friday evening.

Police say that the person who struck Belogur fled the scene, and has not been located.

“It’s a tragedy that someone can have so little regard for human life as to hit a human being in a crosswalk and just keep driving,” the man’s family said in a statement. “Leo was a wonderful father to three kids and a grandfather to seven children. He will be incredibly missed.”

Police say that they are reviewing video footage from near the scene, but so far have not released a description of the vehicle that fatally struck Belogur.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have been travelling through the area between 5:00 and 5:20 p.m. Friday evening, or anyone who witnessed the crash, to call police.
