‘He Was a Good Kid': Family Makes Plea for Answers After Teen Fatally Shot

A family is asking for anyone who knows who may be responsible for the fatal shooting a 16-year-old on the Far South Side to talk.

Andre Taylor, 16, was shot to death at 8 p.m. Sunday night in the Rosemoor neighborhood, just steps outside of his house, according to police and family. Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 7:50 p.m. in the 10000 block of South Indiana found the boy dead at the scene.

The Julian High School Honor student had just walked his girlfriend to the bus stop when someone shot him in the head, family said.

“He was a good kid taken way too early,” his cousin Charles Warren said.

His great-grandmother, who he lived with for eight years after his own mother's death, sobs at the thought of her huge loss.

“Dre had a promising future. He was on the swim team, he was in the band, he took up karate, he was playing football, straight a student, a wonderful young man," Gloria Simpson said.

His brother said he was going to follow in his footsteps.

“I don’t even know how to swim but I’m going to learn how to swim,” his brother Demond Davis said.

“I can't cry no more because he wouldn't want that. He always had me laughing," his cousin Michael Evan said.

The family's pastor is offering $5,000 for any information about the incident.

“We just want to get this person off streets who took this innocent life,” pastor Rev. Ira Acree said.
