Expressway Dancer Closes Ike

Woman bouncing across westbound lanes closes roadway

It was a show stopping performance -- or, a traffic stopping one, anyway.

Drivers got an unexpected show as they waited for the Eisenhower Expressway to be reopened early Wednesday.  Police were dealing with a woman who was dancing across the outbound lanes of the expressway, bringing traffic to a halt on the Far West Side early Wednesday.

State Police got a call of a woman dancing in the westbound lanes of I-290 near South Laramie Avenue at 3:19 a.m.

Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Ivan Bukaczyk said the woman was "bouncing" between three lanes.

The dancer was safely apprehended and taken to Loretto Hospital for observation, Bukaczyk said.

All lanes were reopened by 3:40 a.m., according to the trooper, who said no accidents or injuries were reported.
