Explosion Reported At Morris Home

A gas buildup in the home may be the cause

An explosion was reported early Tuesday in southwest suburban Morris, fire officials said.

Fire Chief Tracey Steffes said the department got a call at about 3:30 a.m. about a garage on fire on the 5800 block of Barrington Road. When crews arrived the garage was completely burned and the fire had spread to the home with flames seen a half-mile away.

Steffes said the garage door was in the driveway, leading crews to believe there was an explosion.

The home owners were in Florida at the time, Steffes said, and no injuries were reported.

The home is a total loss, he said. The fire in under investigation, but Steffes said signs point to a gas buildup in the home.
