Experts Urge Parents to Vaccinate Kids, Prevent Flu Before Halloween

Chicago-area doctors and specialists united Monday in an effort to push parents to get their kids vaccinated by Halloween.

A local family said they decided to visit Northwestern Children’s Practice to get both of their kids the flu vaccine because of how severe the flu was last year.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, last year was the deadliest recorded flu season in four decades.

“I think any parent would hate to see their kids suffer and get the flu,” said Kevin Coffey. “So, two seconds of pain to avoid a week of being really sick I think is totally worth it.”

Another local, Ashley Goldfarb, said she brought her 10-and-a-half-month-old Liv, to finally get her vaccine after being told last season she was too young to receive one.

“I feel good. I feel like we took a step to protect her from a scary virus for little babies,” said Goldfarb.
