Your cash is no longer valid at a popular Chicago burger joint, according to a new report.
Epic Burger has stopped accepting cash at its eight locations across Chicago and in the northern suburbs, Crain’s Chicago Business reports.
The chain made the cash-free shift on June 12 in an effort to “simplify and speed operations,” founder David Friedman told Crain’s.
Moving away from dollars and coins will also help the company protect its employees from risk, which Friedman said was actually prompted by a recent break-in at the Lincoln Park location.
The change will take the "target off the backs" of employees and stop “low-class problems” like “counterfeit bills, theft, robberies,” Friedman told Crain’s.
