Boy, 9, Critical After Being Shot in Neck

A 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after he and another woman were struck by bullets while on the porch of an Englewood home.

The shooting happened at about 10 p.m. Friday, officials said.  Both victims were with a group of people on the porch of a home on the 6400 block of South Racine Avenue when someone approached them and opened fire, police said.

The boy was hit in the neck and rushed to Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago in critical condition. 

The 24-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the chest and was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center where she was initially listed in good condition.

Police said she was released from the hospital early Saturday.

No other injuries were reported and no one was in custody as of midday Saturday. Wentworth area detectives continue to investigate.
