Employee Stabbed at Wicker Park AT&T Store During Attempted Theft

An employee of an AT&T retail store was stabbed Wednesday afternoon in the Wicker Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.

The 27-year-old man was stabbed in his abdomen about 3:54 p.m. while working at a store in the 1800 block of West Division, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition had reportedly stabalized.

Police said between four and five teenage boys had entered the store and tried to take items for sale without paying.

Phil Hayes, a spokesman for AT&T, confirmed the stabbing involved one of the company's vendor-operated stores but deferred all inquiries to the Chicago Police Department.

"Our thoughts are with their employee who was injured," he said.

Area Central detectives were investigating.
