Emery's First Moves: Cutting Adams, Omiyale

Phil Emery made his first official roster moves Thursday, as the Bears announced the release of Anthony Adams and Frank Omiyale.

Via press release, Emery wished the former Bears well:

"Cuts are never easy, but are a part of the evaluation process," said Emery, the team's general manager. "We appreciate all that Anthony and Frank gave the Bears organization both on and off the field during their time in Chicago.  We wish them the best moving forward."

The Adams release was no surprise, as he reported the news earlier this week. Injuries slowed him recently, keeping him from being much of a help on the pass rush. The emergence of Henry Melton and Stephen Paea didn't help.

In his three seasons as a left tackle, Omiyale has been a part of a struggling offensive line. J'Marcus Webb surpassed him, and Lovie Smith reiterated the Bears commitment to Webb at the combine last week:

"J’Marcus is a heck of a football player," Smith said. "I’ll just start out with that. We like him. As far as having a couple bad games, I had a lot of bad games. I think everybody on our team had more bad games than we needed to this past year."

That left Omiyale out of a job.
