Emanuel on Cartel Leader Guzman: “We Will Be Ready”

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the city will be prepared for a just-captured cartel leader if he's ever extradited to face trial in the nation's third largest city.

Emanuel commented on Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman's capture Monday in Washington, D.C.

Federal authorities in Chicago have long said they'd like Guzman tried in Chicago if he was ever captured and extradited. Mexican authorities have indicated a swift extradition is unlikely.

Emanuel says it'll be up to the federal government to decide where to put Guzman on trial, if he's sent to the U.S. But he adds "we will be ready if" Chicago gets the nod.

The U.S. attorney's office in Chicago indicted Guzman in 2009. Half a dozen other U.S. districts have also indicted him.
