Jimenez, Kopech Lead White Sox to Strong Showing in Prospect Ranking

The Sox have seven of the top 100 prospects in baseball

The Chicago White Sox rebuilding process is beginning to yield some serious results, and a new ranking illustrates just how far the team has come.

According to MLB Pipeline, the White Sox now have seven of baseball’s top 100 prospects in their farm system. The new ranking, which came out Saturday, highlights the efforts the White Sox have made to acquire young talent in recent years, with trades and free agent signings bolstering the group.

The group is highlighted by fourth overall prospect Eloy Jimenez, whom the White Sox acquired from the Chicago Cubs in the Jose Quintana trade last season. Jimenez is a powerful hitter who could very well sneak into the big leagues in 2018, but the team is just fine in letting him develop at the minor league level for another year.

Another player the Sox acquired from the Cubs, pitcher Dylan Cease, checked in at number 61.

The White Sox ended up with two prospects in the top 10, as pitcher Michael Kopech was ranked 10th overall by MLB pipeline. Outfielder Luis Robert (26), Alec Hansen (54), Dane Dunning (92), and Blake Rutherford (99) all made the list as well.

The White Sox have the second-most prospects on the top 100 list, falling just behind the Atlanta Braves, who have a staggering eight prospects in the top 100.

Meanwhile, the Sox crosstown rivals, the Cubs, had zero prospects on the list.
