Vigil Planned for Indiana Grocery Store Victims, Survivors

Krystle Dikes and Rachelle Godfread were killed in Wednesday night shooting at a Martin's Super Market in Elkhart, Ind.

Members of a north-central Indiana community planned to gather Saturday for a candlelight vigil to honor the victims and survivors of Wednesday's grocery store shooting.

The vigil was scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday at the scene of the shooting: the Martin's Super Market at 3900 E. Bristol St., in Elkhart, Ind.

The organizer of the vigil, who asked to remain anonymous, said a prayer and moment of silence were being planned to remember Krystle Dikes and Rachelle Godfread and to honor those who escaped to safety or responded to the shooting.

Attendees were asked to bring extra candles.

A suspected gunman, 22-year-old Shawn Walter Bair, also of Elkhart, was killed in an exchange of gunfire with officers from the Elkhart Police Department just after 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Surveillance cameras in the store showed about 12 to 15 people in the store at the time of the shooting.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, as well as the Indiana State Police Department and the Elkhart Police Department were investigating the shooting.
