Elgin Police Release Sketch of Attempted Child Abduction Suspect

The suspect tried to grab a boy from a stroller while his mother held on and screamed, police said

Police released a sketch Monday of a man suspected of trying to abduct a boy from a stroller in northwest suburban Elgin on Thursday evening.

Just before 8 p.m. Thursday, a 45-year-old woman was walking with the boy in a stroller and a girl on foot near Gertrude and Morgan streets, according to a statement from Elgin police.

An unmarked white cargo van made a U-turn and pulled up to them, and a man got out and tried to take the boy, police said. The woman held onto the stroller and yelled for help, and the suspect ran back to the van and another man at the wheel drove off, police said.

The children were not hurt, but the woman suffered minor injuries, police said.

The suspect who tried to grab the boy is described as a Hispanic man about 30  years old with short, dark, curly hair; average height and medium build. He was wearing blue jeans and a black short-sleeved shirt at the time and has a tattoo of a skull on his right hand, police said.
