Eisenhower Lanes Reopen After Reports of Shots Fired

All lanes of the Interstate 290 Eisenhower Expressway have reopened after reports of shots fired shut down part of the roadway late Tuesday, jamming outbound traffic for miles.

About 9:45 p.m., a driver reported seeing someone fire shots out of a silver sedan in the outbound I-290 lanes near Independence Boulevard, according to Illinois State Police.

The expressway was completely closed to traffic between Independence and Cicero until about 11 p.m., when two lanes were opened as investigators canvassed for shell casings, state police said. They didn’t find any, and no gunshot victims were found.

Traffic was back on the move in all lanes as of about 2 a.m., authorities said.
