Cops Investigate Edgewater Jewelry Store Robbery

Police said Monday afternoon they have at least two people in custody after a brazen heist at a north side jewelry store that may have seen employees tied up.

Officers were called to the Bryn Mawr Jewelry Company, in the 1100 block of North Bryn Mawr Avenue, shortly before 2 p.m. after robbers walked in the front door and later out the back.

"There was this guy, he ran out from the store. I believe he was an employee and what I heard is that he was tied up to the chair. So he ran out screaming for help and stuff and there was a lot of police cars over here. There was police officers holding guns and stuff," said witness Amir Ali, who works next door at a Dunkin' Donuts restaurant.

The suspected robbers were captured within a mile of the shop and police said they've recovered some of the merchandise.

The shop is adjacent to the Chicago Transit Authority's Bryn Mawr Red Line stop, and police hope a surveillance camera immediately outside the jewelry store's door will help provide some leads.

There was no gunfire and no injuries were reported.
