Eddie Olcyzk ‘Overwhelmed' by Support During Cancer Battle

Chicago Blackhawks broadcaster Eddie Olczyk returned to the United Center on Saturday night, where he was treated to a thunderous ovation during the team’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

“I’m overwhelmed with the support,” he said during an interview. “I’m battling, but hopefully I’ll be back sooner rather than later.”

Olczyk, who was diagnosed with colon cancer over the offseason, is currently undergoing chemotherapy to treat the disease, but during a lengthy interview with Pat Foley, the broadcaster said that he has been heartened by the support he has gotten during his battle:

“I’m just going day to day,” he told Foley. “I love you, and I feel like we’re going through this together. I’m going to beat this thing. I’m not going to stop until it’s out and I hopefully get a clean bill of health.”

Olczyk revealed that he will be undergoing another round of treatment beginning on Monday as he continues to battle the disease.
