Ed Burke Responds to Threats

Alderman Ed Burke reportedly recieved death threats this week.

The chairman of the City Council Finance Committee says a man named Timothy Hercog, 62, left voicemails saying he wanted to kill Burke and that he hoped Rahm Emanuel, the mayor elect, takes away his bodyguard detail.

Burke's detail of six police officers became a point of contention during the campaign when a debate moderator asked Emanuel if he would eliminate the security team.

Authorities tracked down Hercog using his telephone number and arrested him.

"It just points out that there are some troubled people in our society and this is just another example of that," Burke said Friday.

Hercog has been charged with threatening a public official and will face a judge on Friday.
