A Jewish family has made it a mission to celebrate Easter Sunday—but not in the way most typically do.
A children’s hospital in Chicago hosted its annual tradition where an Easter bunny hops from room to room to deliver personalized baskets to patients dressed in their ‘Sunday best.’
A tradition orchestrated entirely by a family who wanted to make the holiday a special one for those who need it the most.
According to spokesperson Lauren Clennon, the event that took place at La Rabida’s Inpatient Unit 6501 South Promontory Drive, is meant for patients up to 18 years old, who mainly deal with chronic illnesses, disabilities and/or trauma in their daily lives.
Clennon said these patients typically remain in the same hospital bed for weeks, sometimes months or even years at a time.
On Sunday morning however, these hospital patients woke up to a personalized basket of goodies, which contained “a stuffed animal, an age-appropriate activity and a sweet,” said Clennon. “Though never forgetting about the families.”
Clennon said part of the hospital’s mission includes supporting the families in their time of need; so naturally, the Easter bunny made its way to deliver baskets to the patients’ siblings as well.

The family is said to be a part of the hospital’s Board of Trustees.
Organizations in the community participated by donating material, including costumes for the kids who felt like dressing up before their furry friend arrived.
According to the hospital’s official site, “leaders from Chicago's academic, health care, business and civic communities lend their time and talent to increase awareness of the hospital and help raise money for operations, capital improvements and special projects.”
