A northwestern Indiana man has been sentenced to more than 37 years in prison for driving an 11-year-old girl to Illinois for sex.
In addition the prison time handed down Tuesday in U.S. District Court, 30-year-old Edwin Tollinchi-Rodriguez of East Chicago must serve 20 years on supervised release.
Defense attorney Michael Bosch asked Judge Rudy Lozano to impose a 20-year sentence.
Tollinchi-Rodriguez admitted to taking the child identified in court records as Jane Doe, across the Illinois-Indiana state line in November 2012.
Prosecutors say the girl testified during an Oct. 29 hearing Oct. 29 that Tollinchi-Rodriguez began sexually abusing her at age 8 and threatened to kill her and her family if she told anyone. She said she believed the threats because Tollinchi-Rodriguez has been violent with her and other family members previously.
