An early morning fire has displaced 13 residents from a building in suburban Summit, fire officials said Saturday.

Firefighters were called at approximately 2:30 a.m. to battle the blaze, which occurred in the 7600 block of West 61st Street. When they arrived, the fire had spread throughout the second floor of the two-story building, according to officials.

Two people, including a firefighter, were taken to a local hospital. A firefighter was treated for exhaustion, while a resident of the building was treated for smoke inhalation. Both injuries are non-life threatening, according to officials.

In all, 13 residents were evacuated from the building, which suffered extensive damage in the blaze.

Fire officials and the Village of Summit are working with the Red Cross to provide housing to those displaced by the fire.
