Yankees Outfielder Suffers Serious Knee Injury vs. White Sox

New York Yankees outfielder Dustin Fowler made his MLB debut against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night, but his evening came to a sad end when he suffered a serious knee injury.

The injury occurred in the bottom of the first inning of the game, which was delayed by three hours because of rain. Fowler was chasing down a pop fly by White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu, but he ended up colliding with the wall down the right field foul line:

Eventually Fowler was carted off the field, and the news that he got about his injury was grim. The rookie outfielder will miss the rest of the season with an open rupture of the right patella tendon in his knee.

The outfielder had to have emergency surgery on the injury Thursday night, and the operation was performed by White Sox team physicians.

Fowler didn't even get the chance to complete his first big league at-bat, as he was stranded in the on-deck circle after the Yankees batted in the top of the first inning.

The White Sox ended up winning the contest 4-3.
