Rep. Tammy Duckworth cast an early ballot for the November election Wednesday in Chicago.
The congresswoman, who is locked in one of the nation’s tightest U.S. Senate races with incumbent Republican Mark Kirk, voted Wednesday at the Cook County Clerk’s Office downtown.
"It's never been easier or more convenent to vote, and Tammy was eager to take advantage of the opportunity to cast her ballot this morning," Duckworth campaign spokesman Matt McGrath said in a statement. "It's also exciting that Illinois is approaching record-high voter registration, and since the early voting period began, our campaign has been treating every day like [get out the vote] weekend."
"The stakes in this election are extraordinary, and no matter whom you intend to vote for, our campaign encourages all Illinoisans to make a plan to vote, and exercise this fundamental freedom," McGrath added.
Early voting for the Nov. 8 general election was expanded Monday throughout Chicago and the city’s neighboring suburbs.

Illinois’ early voting technically started on Sept. 29, but voters were only able to cast ballots at pre-approved locations, like county election offices.
