The man whose body was found on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Friday has been identified, authorities said.
Augstin Perez, 32, was driving a white 2000 Freightliner truck tractor southbound on I-94 at around 5 a.m. when he stopped on the shoulder near 31st Street, Illinois State Police said in a statement.
Perez, of Berwyn, exited his vehicle and was struck by another truck in the far right lane of traffic, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to ISP.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
The 53-year-old driver of the second vehicle, a 2013 white Volvo semi-truck, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Chicago, officials said. His condition and the nature of his injuries were not available.
"At this time, it is unknown why the driver exited his vehicle," ISP said of Perez. The incident remains under investigation.
