A man has been arrested and charged after a crash that killed his passenger Thursday in north suburban Waukegan.

Orihuela was driving a black 2008 Ford Fusion east on Bonnie Brook Lane about 10:45 p.m. when he lost control and hit a tree near the intersection with Lewis Avenue, according to a statement from Waukegan police.

The front-seat passenger, a North Chicago man in his 20s, was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead, police said. The Lake County coroner’s office is expected to perform an autopsy on Friday.

Orihuela, was taken to a hospital to be treated for “moderate injuries,” police said. He has since been released into police custody.

His bond was set at $200,000, police said. He posted bail Saturday.
