Convicted wife killer Drew Peterson briefly walked out of the Will County Jail on Thursday to attend his mother's wake.
No other family members were present during the private, 15 minute visitation at the Modell Funeral Home in Darien.
Peterson's 84-year-old mother, Betty Morphey, reportedly suffered from severe dementia.
"These things happen for any other inmate," a county spokesman told NBC Chicago, but added it's not something they publicize.
Peterson, convicted Sept. 7 of first-degree murder in the drowning death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, will be back in court Friday facing his two competing lawyers.
