Dramatic Temperature Drop Friday, Weekend Storms Possible

Saturday will likely be the better of the two weekend days

Thursday may have been the warmest day of the week for the Chicago area, but the summer-like weather didn't last long.

Temperatures were expected to drop up to 30 degrees by Friday, with highs likely ranging from the 50s to the low- to mid-60s.

Saturday will likely be the better of the two weekend days.

Temps stay mild with highs in the upper-60s and low-70s, possibly dipping into the 50s along the lakefront.

Summer-like warmth looks to return Sunday with humid conditions and temps near 80 degrees. But with the warm-up comes periods of showers and thunderstorms and the potential for some severe weather.

The threat for storms moves in during the late morning hours with some showers forecast and the potential for heavy rain. There is a possibility that a few isolated severe storms will move in during the late afternoon and evening hours, particularly in areas south of the city and in Northwest Indiana, as cooler temps move in.

The cold front should leave the area by Monday morning as temps are expected to stay in the upper-70s through the start of next week.
