Presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump sent out a series of tweets Tuesday morning bemoaning crime in Chicago and pledging to “make America safe again.”
“Crime is out of control, and rapidly getting worse,” Trump tweeted. “Look what is going on in Chicago and our inner cities. Not good!”
Chicago has seen a spike in violence in 2016. So far this year, there have been 2,110 shootings and 342 homicides, according to the Chicago Tribune.
In his tweets, Trump claimed he was going to “deliver jobs, safety and protection for those in need.”
“This election is a choice between law, over & safety - or chaos, crime & violence,” Trump added.
Trump is in Chicago Tuesday to host a big-ticket fundraiser that will reportedly take place at Trump Tower. It's his first campaign trip to the city since his canceled rally at the UIC Pavilion in March erupted in protests and fights.
Tickets for Trump’s Tuesday fundraiser range in price from $10,000 to $100,000, according to Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Donors making a $10,000 donation to Trump’s campaign will receive a ticket for Tuesday’s lunch, while a $25,000 donation yields two tickets and a photo opportunity. The biggest ticket, which goes for $100,000, gets donors access to a VIP roundtable, photo opportunity and two tickets to the lunch.
According to the Tribune, Trump is set to collect over $1 million in campaign funding from the event.
