District Bar Shuts Down

Owner cites bad economy, increased competition for closure

River North is used to hosting bar and restaurant grand openings, but one seemingly popular spot has decided to throw in the towel.

District Bar shut its doors for good on Tuesday.

Partner Mookie Lee cited the downturn in the economy and increased competition in the area as the reason for the closure.

"We tried to determine whether it would be best to put more money into the business and reconcept, but at the end of the day we decided it would be better to just shut down," Lee said.

District was a popular spot to watch sports and was one of LeBron James' favorite spots to hang out when he was in town.

It first opened its doors in spring 2009.
