In an emergency session, Township High School District 214 officials on Thursday unanimously approved a measure to waive the competitive bid process for emergency repairs to Wheeling High School.
Severe storms that battered the northwest suburbs last Friday caused an estimated $5 million worth of damage to the home of the Wheeling Wildcats.

"It's got to be done and we'll use our reserves to upfront the money for this and then our insurance company will pay us, minus the deductibles, but that's going to take a while to circulate through their process, and we have to do this now," said School Board President Bill Dussling.
The roof, a portion of which is now covered by a tarp held down with buckets, will be the biggest expense, but garbage canisters are full of other things that need to be repaired or replaced.
The storm struck near the end of the school day last Friday. With Thursday's vote, construction can start in a matter of days, and officials hope that most of the work will be finished sometime in November..
