Dozens of gay and lesbian civil rights supporters lined up outside Peoria's Elbo Room last weekend to voice their outrage at a sign the bar recently posted out front.
The sign reads: "We Are Not A Gay Bar," the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.
Protesters say it might as well say, "Gays Are Not Welcome," and that's a sign of intolerance they simply won't tolerate.
"This is the first time we've mobilized for a situation like that," said Dawn Scally, 35, of Peoria Heights. "Let's finally do something and get together and stop taking everything as it comes. Let's take a stand and try to have a voice for the community."
