Des Plaines Bicyclist, 66, Dies After Being Hit By Car During Group Ride

Police say there were no indicators that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash

A 66-year-old woman from Des Plaines was killed Saturday morning when she was hit by a car during a group bicycle ride in Aurora.

The woman, identified as Lonnie Wilkinson, was riding westbound on the Virgil Gillman Trail just before 11 a.m. when she was struck by a car traveling southbound as she crossed Densmore Road, according to Aurora Police. She was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Wilkinson was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The car was driven by a man from Sugar Grove, police said. Further information on the make and model of the vehicle were not available.

No tickets have been issued in the incident, and police say there were no indicators that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The Aurora Police Traffic Division Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash.
