DePaul University Student Attacked

Woman treated for head injury after Wednesday evening attack

A 21-year-old DePaul University student was attacked about a block from the school’s Lincoln Park campus Wednesday night, officials said.

The woman was walking on Sheffield Avenue near Altgeld Street about 6:45 p.m. when someone walked up and struck her with a "blunt object," DePaul’s director of public safety Bob Wachowski said.

The suspect did not try to rob the woman and fled after the attack, Wachowski said, adding it was an "unusual" incident.

Paramedics took the victim to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was treated for a head injury, Wachowski said.

The university notified the community by sending out an email and posting alerts on the front doors of campus buildings, Wachowski said.

Chicago police could not immediately provide further information.
