Chicago-Area Dentists Offer to Buy Back Halloween Candy for Troops

The candy will go to troops overseas, and patients will be paid per pound for the sweet stuff

If you have extra Halloween candy and want to help out a good cause, then Chicago-area dentists are looking to give you a hand.

DecisionOne Dental Partners, which operates 26 Chicagoland locations, is accepting donations of extra candy, which it will put into care packages for troops serving overseas.

To sweeten the deal, people who bring in candy will be paid $1 per pound for their extra treats.

"A lot of our patients think this is a trick to keep them from eating sweets that are bad for their teeth!" says Dr. AJ Acierno, CEO and co-founder of DecisionOne Dental.  "If you're brushing and flossing regularly a little candy is just fine, but if your house is like mine, we always have so much candy left over that we didn't give out to trick-or-treaters.  Those treats are an incredible morale boost for our troops."

Candy can be brought into offices from Nov. 1 to the 10th, and money raised during the campaign will be sent to Packages4Patriots, an organization based in Elk Grove Village that ships care packages to troops.
