Pair Charged in Shooting Death of EMU Student from Chicago

Demarius Reed was fatally shot on Oct. 18

Two 20-year-old face murder charges in connection with the shooting death of Demarius Reed, an Eastern Michigan University student from Chicago.

Without naming the individuals, EMU officials posted a notice of the charges to the campus Facebook page on Monday. Records show Ed Jemeal Thomas and Kristopher Kaivon Pratt, both from Detroit, have been charged with murder and robbery charges.

Further details were expected to be released late Monday, detectives said.

Reed was a wide receiver for the EMU Eagles. He was found shot to death at an off-campus apartment complex on Oct. 18. Some of his personal items were missing, leading officials to believe he was slain during a robbery.

Reed was a standout football player at Chicago's Simeon Career Academy.
