Mom, 4-Year-Old Son Found Dead in Western Suburb

A mother and her 4-year-old son were found dead in what police believe may have been a domestic violence incident in a west Chicago suburb, authorities said.

A heavy police presence could be seen in the 1700 block of Mannheim Road beginning late Thursday night and into the morning hours.

Little information has been released by police, but the Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed it was called to the scene. The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force was also investigating.

Crime scene tape surrounded an entire apartment complex in the area, where the landlord said a woman and her young son lived inside a rental home.

A neighbor who said he ran into the home when he heard a woman screaming, said he saw a child unresponsive in a room and the woman face down in a bathroom. He noted the child appeared to have an injury to his throat, but police could not confirm that information.

"This appears to be an isolated domestic violence incident," Stone Park Police Chief Christopher Pavini said in a statement.

Authorities said a person of interest was being sought in the case.

An investigation remained ongoing Friday.
