2 Shot on Dan Ryan Expressway; Lanes Closed, Red Line Trains Delayed

A shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway left two people wounded and shut down express lanes and Chicago Transit Authority Red Line tracks as morning rush hour began Monday.

According to Illinois State Police, two people were shot on the expressway just after 1 a.m. near Garfield Boulevard. One person was listed in critical condition, another was treated and released, authorities said.

The shooting closed several lanes on the roadway, but just before 6 a.m., southbound express lanes remained shut down from 43rd to Garfield. It remained unclear when they would reopen.

The Red Line tracks were closed between 35th Street and 69th Street in both directions for nearly an hour. Shuttle buses were being provided for commuters.

Just before 6 a.m., the transit agency said service had resumed but "major delays" were reported.

There was no suspect description as of early Monday morning.
