Body of Retired Suburban Teacher Found in State Park, 2 Months After He Went Missing

The body of a retired suburban high school teacher was discovered in a state park Saturday, more than two months after he was reported missing, authorities said.

Dan Jarski, 62, of Grant Park, was reported missing on Sept. 9, officials said. His body was discovered in the Kankakee State Park Saturday morning, according to the Will County coroner's office.

He was pronounced dead at 11:25 a.m. Saturday, a coroner's office spokesman said, and he was positively identified through dental records on Tuesday.

Jarski's final cause and manner of death was pending an autopsy and toxicology report, authorities said, and an investigation by the Kankakee sheriff's office and the Illinois State Police remained ongoing.

Jarski left his Grant Park home on Sept. 9 and was last seen at a hunting area in the park along the Kankakee River, according to police. His van was found two days later, located just off of Route 113 in Will County.

A Facebook page created to coordinate search efforts for the former Andrew High School science teacher confirmed that Jarski's family was notified of his death on Nov. 13.

"As a family, we are empty," a post on the page reads.

"This has been such a long road for us, and for all of you that have followed it with us. So many of you searched tirelessly, shared this page, hung flyers, prayed with us that Dan would come home. We can't say thank you enough. All we can say is that we are all blessed to have people like all of you in our lives."
