Cutler, Trestman on Same Page for Upcoming Season

If Jay Cutler and Marc Trestman are to be believed, good things are in store for the Chicago Bears offense in the 2014 season.

The quarterback and coach held back-to-back news conferences Tuesday at Halas Hall on the last day of OTAs.

Cutler expressed comfort at heading into a season knowing what to expect.

"You know we're going into my ninth year, so I think this is only the second or third time I have been in the same offense, you know, multiple years, so still a little bit new to us," Cutler said. "We did some good things last year, we are still in the learning process but guys are much more familiar with what the concepts are and the formations and everything, so that will definitely help. Less thinking and just being able to go fast."

Cutler signed a seven-year, $126 million contact at the end of last season. He says he's working to improve the strength on his left side after suffering a groin strain and left ankle sprain.

Trestman downplayed earlier comments that Cutler was looking bigger and stronger, but did express satisfaction with the work his quarterback has put in during the offseason.

"I felt that he did spend a little more time, or he got started early on his strength and conditioning on the long offseason," Trestman said.

Trestman said the backup quarterback is way too early to call, and that he plans to give all four candidates plenty of snaps to show their ability.

Cutler called having a baby the highlight of his offseason.

"We had another baby, I think Kristin was ready to get that one out and get the summer going, so that's probably been the highlight," Cutler said.

"Going from one to two is a little different, as anyone who's had kids your probably know. You go from zone defense to man to man and now there's just zero free time, so it's been hectic but fun."

The team won't be back together for organized activities until training camp.
