Chicago's First Culver's Location Gets Opening Day

After months of speculation, the battle over which Culver's will be the first to open in Chicago appears to be over.

The Bronzeville burger shop at 3356 S. King Dr. will officially open its doors Tuesday following a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m., spokesman Paul Pitas confirmed Thursday.

The first Chicago location for the Wisconsin-based burger franchise has been under construction for several months, battling with another city location to be the first to open its doors.

In 2016, when plans for the South Side eatery were first revealed, a Culver's spokesman said the company was planning to open dozens of new restaurants in the months that followed. Culver’s has hundreds locations in 24 states and was eyeing upper-Midwestern expansion, including Chicago and some of its suburbs.

Earlier this week, Culver's opened a new location in Fox Lake.

The chain is known for its butter burgers, frozen custard and cheese curds.
