The Chicago Cubs have some interesting decisions to make this offseason after missing the playoffs, but it appears that one high-priced free agent will not be part of the team’s plans moving forward.

According to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs are expected to pay relief pitcher Brandon Morrow a $3 million buyout for the 2020 season. Morrow was set to make $12 million if the Cubs picked up his option, but after two injury-plagued seasons, the closer has reached the end of the line with the Cubs.

Gonzales also reports that the Cubs will buy out reliever Derek Holland, who will receive $500,000 from the team rather than the $6.5 million he would have been due next season.

The Cubs also have decisions to make on first baseman Anthony Rizzo and pitcher José Quintana, both of whom have team options for next season. Gonzales’ report indicates that the team is expected to pick up both options, but they’ll officially make that decision in the days following the World Series.

Several high-profile players are set to become free agents for the Cubs, including Nicholas Castellanos, Ben Zobrist, Cole Hamels, and Pedro Strop.
