Cubs Prospects Look to Win Arizona Fall League Title Saturday

While Chicago Cubs fans are going to have to wait a while to see their team back on the field, they will have an opportunity to see some of the biggest prospects in the team’s system battle it out on the warm, sunny fields of Arizona on Saturday afternoon in the Arizona Fall League championship game.

The Mesa Solar Sox, the Cubs’ affiliate in the Fall League, won the Eastern Division championship on Friday after storming back from a 5-0 deficit against the Scottsdale Scorpions. Thanks to that victory and a loss by the Salt River Rafters, the Solar Sox will take on the Surprise Saguaros on Saturday afternoon to decide the development league’s annual championship.

When the team takes the field, their lineup will feature a pair of the Cubs’ top prospects. Ian Happ, the Cubs’ first round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, will be batting third for the Solar Sox in the championship game, and Eloy Jimenez, who is batting .255 with three home runs and 10 RBI in Fall League play, will bat seventh and serve as the designated hitter for Mesa.

Here is Mesa’s full lineup for the game Saturday:

1 Franklin Barreto (OAK) – 2B

2 Greg Allen (CLE) – RF

3 Ian Happ (CHC) – LF

4 Brian Anderson (MIA) – 3B

5 Bradley Zimmer (CLE) – CF

6 Juan Kelly (TOR) – 1B

7 Eloy Jimenez (CHC) – DH

8 Danny Jansen (TOR) – C

9 Yu-Cheng Chang (CLE) – SS

The game will be broadcast on television, as MLB Network will carry the championship tilt. The game will also be streamed on MLB.com beginning at 2:08 p.m. Central time.
