Cubs Manage 1 Hit in Blowout Loss to Cardinals

The lone hit of the night went to newly acquired Nicholas Castellanos

The Chicago Cubs managed one hit as they were shutout 8-0 by the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night. 

Nicholas Castellanos managed the one hit for the Cubs in the game and also drew a walk in his debut with the team. Tony Kemp went 0-for-3 in his debut, while Kris Bryant went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in the losing effort. 

Jon Lester gave up five earned runs in five innings, and was tagged with his seventh loss of the season. Derek Holland, Brad Brach, and Tyler Chatwood all gave up earned runs in the loss, while David Phelps was the only Cubs pitcher not to give up a run in the game. 

Jack Flaherty had an outstanding game for St. Louis, giving up one hit and striking out nine batters in seven innings of work. 

Matt Wieters hit his 10th home run of the season and drove in three runs in the game, while Yairo Munoz drove in a pair of runs int he victory. 

The loss drops the Cubs to a game behind the Cardinals in the National League Central race as they prepare to head home for a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers beginning on Friday afternoon. 

José Quintana will pitch for the Cubs in the game, which starts at 1:20 p.m.
