Cubs' Ben Zobrist Cancels Bears Game Appearance at Soldier Field

Chicago Cubs star Ben Zobrist was planning on bringing the World Series trophy to the Bears game on Sunday, and while fans still got to see the coveted hardware, they weren't able to catch a glimpse of the MVP at Soldier Field.

On Saturday afternoon, the Bears announced on Twitter that Zobrist would not be making the trip to see the team's game against the Tennessee Titans. The reason given was an illness on the part of the World Series MVP, and the Bears promised that they would work to reschedule the appearance.

Chicago sports fans looking to keep the historic celebration going weren't left hanging, though – Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts brought the Commissioner's Trophy to the game himself. [[403255746, C]]

Wearing a Bears zip-up, Ricketts hoisted the trophy on the field as World Series highlights played on the video board followed by "Go Cubs Go" in a tribute to the champions.

The long-awaited trophy has also already made an appearance at the United Center as the Cubs attended a Chicago Blackhawks game earlier this season. Kyle Schwarber and several of his teammates were at the game, and David Ross did the "shoot the puck" promotion after the second period of the contest.

Fortunately for the Bears, the Cubs and all their fans, they will still have several opportunities to welcome Zobrist to Soldier Field for a game. They have another home game next week as the San Francisco 49ers play the Bears on Dec. 4, and the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins will head to Chicago later in the month of December.
