CTA Worker Dies on Blue Line Tracks

A CTA worker died early Saturday on the tracks of a Northwest Side Blue Line station, according to police and the CTA.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. at the Addison Blue Line station in the city's Irving Park neighborhood, officials confirmed.

A woman later identified as 37-year-old Pearl Hendrix of Markham was working as a "flag man," positioned on the tracks to alert oncoming trains of construction.

She was at the track level when she either tripped or lost her balance, officials said, somehow coming in contact with the third rail.

She was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Hendrix's father told NBC 5 that she had been working for the CTA for about two years.

The Addison Blue Line station is closed for ongoing reconstruction, which will continue through the weekend, according to the CTA.
