Suspect Accused of Punching Elderly Woman in Custody, Police Say

Chicago police say they have arrested a man who allegedly punched an elderly woman in the face on a CTA train Thursday.

Police released photos of the man on Friday morning, and just after 5 p.m. Friday, they said they had taken the suspect into custody and that charges are pending.

"Thank you to the public and everyone for your assistance in finding this suspect," the department tweeted.

The unidentified man was shown in security images standing near the woman, who was reading on her Kindle onboard a Red Line train. The man then punched her in the face, causing serious injury to the woman’s eye.

Hours later, the department announced they had arrested the suspect, accusing him of aggravated battery.

"The partnership between the Police and community works and this is just the most recent example. Thank you!" the department said on Twitter.
