CTA Holds Meeting to Discuss Red Line Construction

CTA earlier this month announced its plans to upgrade the Red Line and close nine stations for five months

The Chicago Transit Authority on Monday evening held its first public meeting to discuss the Red Line South Track reconstruction.

CTA officials explained the work to be done on the Dan Ryan branch of the Red Line, answered questions about station closures and received feedback on the plans.

"It's very important to us to have a dialogue with the community about our plans to improve the Dan Ryan branch of the Red Line," Chicago Transit Board Chairman Terry Peterson said in a release.

The CTA earlier this month announced its plans to upgrade the Red Line and close nine stations for five months during construction. The $425 million project consists of new tracks, ties and ballast, and drainage improvements.

The public meeting was held at the South Shore Cultural Center, at 7059 S. South Shore Drive. Another public meeting will be held starting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Kennedy-King College Gymnasium, at 6343 S. Halsted St.

More information about the Red Line renewal project is available on the CTA website.
