Layoffs that were scheduled to reduce the Chicago Transit Authority's workforce by 16 at the start of the new year have been rescinded.
The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 308 and the CTA will soon join other unions in a new round of contract talks, union president Robert Kelly said Saturday.
The existing contract expires at midnight, and Kelly said the groups would begin talks "in the very near future."
"This by no means the troubles are over by any stretch of the imagination," he said. "But we take one day at a time and I look forward to sitting with CTA, Local 241 and other trade unions to find solutions."
Twenty-six other union employees, who'd been laid off since February 2010, returned to work earlier this month.
