CTA Holds Second Job Fair for Bus Drivers

The transit authority will hire 400 part-time drivers ahead of next year's Red Line South Track Renewal Project

The Chicago Transit Authority on Tuesday hosts its second job fair to hire 400 part-time drivers ahead of next year's multi-month closure of South Side rail stations.

The event takes place between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the National Teachers Academy, located at 55 W. Cermak Road. Last month's fair drew almost 2,400 job seekers.

The CTA wants drivers to primarily shuttle commuters next spring during the Red Line South Track Renewal Project, but transit officials said the positions could lead to full-time jobs.

"These are good-paying jobs that will eventually lead to full-time employment," said CTA Chairman Terry Peterson. "So after the five-month construction period is over, those employees that get hired ... will stay part of CTA's employment workforce."

Those interested in the opportunities should attend the job fairs prepared with a valid, Class B Commercial drivers license or permit with general knowledge, passenger transport and air brake endorsements. They should also have a court-purposed motor vehicle record obtained through the Illinois Secretary of State's Office.

The next information fair after Tuesday will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at Kennedy King College, 6301 S. Halsted St.

An average of 50,000 riders use the south branch of the Red Line each day, according to the CTA.
