More Than a Dozen Injured in CTA Bus Crash

Route No. 4 bus was waiting to make a turn when it was rear-ended, official said

Thirteen people were injured Monday evening during a Chicago Transit Authority bus crash in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.

The accident occurred about 7 p.m. in the 8300 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, said police department spokesman Officer Darryl Baety.

An eastbound No. 4 Cottage Grove bus was stopped on 83rd Street and waiting to turn south onto Cottage Grove Avenue when a vehicle rear-ended the bus, said CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis

Fifteen passengers initially reported injuries but several refused treatment, Lukidis said.

Thirteen people were taken in "stable" condition to area hospitals, said fire department spokesman Will Knight.

At least five ambulances initially were called to the scene.

There were no bus delays due to the crash, Lukidis said.
